FOR two weekends of October, audiences near and far Bonifacio Global City in Taguig were treated to the Filipino musical talent spanning all genres and decades.
Over a hundred solo artists, bands and icons played in celebration of original Pilipino music at this extraordinary festival co-curated by Moy Ortiz, Noel Ferrer and new National Artist for Music Ryan Cayabyab.
Here are some of the performances we caught at the Maybank Theater of the BGC Arts Center:
On opening night, Nicole Asensio, formerly of all-girl band General Luna, served as vocals for Razorback. The legendary rock band announced it parted ways with original vocalist Kevin Roy early this year.
As fan of Razorback, Asensio said that it had been an honor to sing for the band.
"Original Pilipino music is very much alive. Don't ever doubt it for a second," added the beautiful face with powerful vocal chops.
Yes, that's Jim Paredes and Boboy Garovillo two out of three of iconic OPM group, APO Hiking Society! They also performed on opening night along with other icons on other stages. There were Bayang Barrios and Noel Cabangon, to name a few.
Getting into their groove even 41 years later since APO was formed!
"Batang Bata Ka Pa," "Panalangin," "Ewan," "When I Met You," "Pumapatak ang Ulan," these APO songs are as timeless as these two.
The new breed of OPM artists also gave their all during Pinoy Playlist 2018. On Day 5, Bullet Dumas rocked the Maybank Theater.
Something can be said about Dumas' originality. His songwriting and musicality is not bounded by methods nor a single genre as proven by his changing tunes before every song.
Man of the hour.
